Frequently asked questions

How is the invitation arranged?

The procedure varies by country: in some places the invitation is registered with a government office, in others a simple letter is enough. We give your host written instructions on what to do.

Do we have to be related?

No. An invitation from a friend is accepted too. In that case anything that evidences the friendship helps — previous visits, correspondence, photographs together.

Can my host cover the costs?

Yes, most countries have a formal procedure for this. Even so, you may still be asked for documents about your own finances.

What do I need if I am travelling with a child?

A child needs their own set of papers: a birth certificate, the notarised consent of the other parent if they are not travelling, and their own application form.
